Is popsocket making it difficult to charge your phone wirelessly? This guide will explain how to effortlessly charge your smartphone with popsockets on.

If you have never heard of popsocket, it’s a small collapsible device that you can attach to the back of your smartphone or the case. It provides a better grip, allows you to take pictures efficiently, and improves the single-handed usage of the phone.

Popsockets are very popular these days, and manufacturers keep coming up with stylish designs to match your style. Especially if you have a big smartphone, these tiny devices can come in very handy.

One problem with popsocket, however, is that it reduces the wireless charging capabilities. Regardless of their functionality, using a wireless charger with popsockets on is troublesome.

Today we are discussing whether it is feasible to charge your smartphone wirelessly when it’s hooked to popsocket. We will also discuss how you can seamlessly charge your phone despite using a popsocket on the back.

Let’s get going!

Popsockets and Wireless Charging: It’s Tricky

Your phone needs to be physically in contact with the wireless charging pad in order to recharge the battery. These chargers use magnetic induction to supply power to the charging coils on your phone. It’s evident that with popsockets, there is a visible gap between the two surfaces, hindering the charring process.

Even the best wireless charges have a range of a few millimetres, and a popsocket can create an obstruction between the charger and the smartphone. Your phone may charge, but it will be painfully slow, and in most cases, it won’t charge.

Some manufacturers have started creating popsocket-friendly wireless charges with a hollow space in the middle to overcome this situation. However, the coil placement on your smartphone is not specific, so it might only work for some devices.

As you can see, it’s clear that wireless charging and popsockets don’t go well together. However, if you can’t give up on either, you need to find an alternative solution to make things work. Let’s see what your options are.

How to Wirelessly Charge Your Smartphone with popsocket?

If your smartphone is not charging with a popsocket on, try to move it. You only need to find a clear space between the charging coils and the wireless charging pad. You can try various positions and angles to make it work. If you get lucky and the phone is charging as it should, remember the position and get on with it.

If not, there are a few alternative methods you can try. Let’s have a look:

1. Use Popsocket on Your Phone Case

If you want to avoid going through the pain of removing popsocket every time you need to charge your phone, buy one you can use on your case. These popsockets stick to the back of the case and don’t need to be removed.

You will still need to take off your case before charging, which should take at most 2 seconds. This way, you don’t need to give up on your popsocket and can effortlessly charge your smartphone without interruption.

2. Buy Charger with Better Range

Another option is to get a charger with a higher wireless range. As I mentioned, standard wireless charges have a smaller range (~1.5 inches), and even the slimmest popsocket can reduce its efficiency drastically. Long-range chargers can charge your phone from a distance, so you won’t need to take off your beloved popsocket every time.

However, such charges are rare. A few manufacturers have introduced wireless charges with a range of up to 1 foot, but you will have to pay top dollar to get your hands on them.

3. Use Detachable popsocket

As popsockets are catching a lot of attention, designers have come up with many creative ideas to make them as efficient as possible. One such arrangement is a detachable popsocket.

These popsockets consist of 2 parts that can be separated from one another easily. The base part still remains attached to the back of your phone. Whenever you need to charge your phone, you can click to remove the part of popsocket and put your phone to charge. The base, which is still attached to your phone, has a thickness of less than an inch, meaning it won’t create an obstruction between the charging pad and coils. Once done, you can click the popsocket back on.

4. Use Adjustable popsocket

You can also look for a popsocket that’s compatible with wireless chargers. As I stated above, the use of these devices is increasing, and every day we see new and improved designs from manufacturers to make them more efficient and valuable.

Here are some examples:

  • Detachable The slim base of the popsocket remains attached to the phone, making it easy to charge.
  • Rotating You can rotate a part of the popsocket to clear the space between the charging coils and the pad.
  • Sliding It uses a magnetic grip instead of adhesive to stick to your phone and can quickly be taken off while charging.

It’s advisable to try these popsockets before buying them since not all of them work with your phone. It’s also possible that you may find one specifically designed for your phone.

5. Buy popsocket Friendly Charger

Last but not least, you can try to find a popsocket-friendly charger. These chargers are designed to use with a popsocket without hindering the charging process. They feature a circular configuration with a cavity in the middle where the popsocket fits perfectly. It reduces the gap between the back of your phone and the charging pad.

It’s easier to find such charges for high-end smartphones, but if you do proper research, you can find the one that works perfectly with your phone as well. PopPower 2 for iPhone is an excellent example of such a design.
