Surveillance cameras and security systems have become essential in today’s time. Q-See provides security solutions for both commercial and residential use. It offers various products, including IP cameras, CCTV cameras, DVRs and NVRs, and security cameras.

It is very easy to install these products but like any other security solution, users raise various questions while using them. A common query with Q-See is what its devices’ default password is. In this article, we will answer that question and cover everything you need to know about Q-See.

Q-See Features

Q-See devices are quite reliable and feature-packed. Here are some of its notable features:

  1. High-quality video

Video quality is a priority with surveillance cameras. If your video is of poor quality, you won’t be able to recognize faces and activities from your recorded footage, making the whole system redundant. Q-See cameras produce high-definition video ensuring users get a system that can be relied on upon use.

  1. Night vision

Most crimes happen at night when the population is not active. Hence, the need for surveillance systems during this time rises exponentially. With Q-See cameras, you get infrared night vision capabilities allowing users to view footage in dark conditions.

  1. Motion detection

Smart detection features may feel gimmicky with most tech products, they are quite useful with surveillance systems. Q-See cameras come enabled with motion detection triggering alerts or recording when it detects malicious activities.

  1. Remote access

With surveillance systems being essential these days, having easy access to footage also becomes necessary. Q-See devices provide remote viewing, allowing users to view live surveillance footage on their mobile phones, computers, and tablets.

  1. Two-way audio

Audio plays a crucial role in surveillance systems since it is common to find criminal sounds on them. With Q-See cameras, you get the option of two-way audio wherein not only do you receive audio footage on your mobile device, you can also speak through the camera using it.

How to register a Q-See device?

While it varies depending on the specificity of the device, registering Q-See devices for the most part is extremely simple. Here is how to do it:

  • Step 1: Connect your Q-See device to your default network and make sure all the hardware is correctly connected.
  • Step 2: Download and install the “Q-See Plus” app on your smartphone.
  • Step 2: Make sure your smartphone is connected to reliable Wi-Fi and launch the application.
  • Step 3: Find “Register” on the app and register your device and choose settings accordingly.

What is the default password for Q-See?

One problem that you may encounter while registering your Q-See device is with device passwords. Q-See devices don’t come in with blank credentials by default. They have a default password that needs to be used by the user for using these devices. Thankfully, most Q-See devices invariably use the same default usernames and passwords.

If you are looking for it, it is located in the manual that is provided with your device. Usually, the default username for these devices is “admin” and the same can be said for the password. The password may also be “qsee” or “123456”. You can change these details in the settings later.

Are Q-See Cameras still available?

Q-See went bankrupt on January 31, 2021, shutting down all operations. These operations include the manufacturing of camera systems and hardware as well as their commercial sales. The company also shut down all its computer software and mobile apps, affecting all its customers who were using Q-See cameras as their surveillance solutions.

What DVR is compatible with Q-See cameras?

Q-See Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) are compatible with various security cameras, including analog, HD-TVI, and IP cameras. As for formats, it can operate in  D-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI, and analog CCTV (CVBS) video formats. Going deep into compatibility, it will depend on the features and capabilities of that particular model.

Operating system compatibility is also something that needs to be kept in mind. Most Q-See systems work with macOS and Windows. We always recommend users check compatibility based on the model they are going to use for a seamless experience.

How to replace Q-See cameras?

Since the bankruptcy, Q-See has sent its users into the gulag searching for a replacement for their surveillance system. The primary equipment that needs replacing is the DVR or NVR. To place them, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Backup your Q-See DVR: Before replacing any DVR system, you need to back up all settings and recordings to avoid losing any useful data. It also simplifies the setup of your new system.
  2. Disconnect the Q-See DVR: To disconnect your Q-See DVR, unplug all hardware and disconnect any software linking to it.
  3. Connect and install the new DVR: Get the new DVR based on the compatibility of your system and connect it according to its guided setup.
  4. Configure the new DVR: Configure your new DVR as per how it is guided. You will now be using new software for operation so get used to it.

If your DVR still works and your security camera is at fault, get a BNC security camera system for the best experience. If you are having trouble finding replacements, contact a reliable surveillance system provider and they’ll guide you toward your replacements.

Conclusion

Q-See cameras are extremely reliable and easy to use. They provide users with a variety of features including night vision, two-way audio, and remote viewing, among many others. A common problem that was faced with Q-See however was how to locate its default password for proper configuration. We covered how to find it in the article above.

Unfortunately, most Q-See systems don’t operate the same anymore as the company shut all its operations in January 2021 affecting most of its active users. We also covered how to overcome this and find an ideal replacement for your Q-See surveillance system.
