If you’ve spent over a minute searching for app icons on your home screens, it may be worth organizing your iPhone for easy access. With thousands of apps at our disposal, they can quickly overcrowd our screens. The same applies to photographs. Not only are you less able to navigate a large amount of data, but the smartphone itself feels overloaded. Take time to organize your phone and get rid of clutter. This will save you a lot more time in the long run when you can complete your routine tasks faster.
How to Clean Up Your Phone?
#1 Get rid of saved images
Your phone should hopefully be automatically syncing and saving your pictures and videos to the cloud, ensuring their safety. It’s a risky move to save images to your device without regular backups. If your phone is lost or damaged, you could lose them forever.
If you haven’t set up automatic backup functionality yet, take a moment to do so. Once you’re certain your photos and videos are securely saved to the cloud (and if you want to be extra cautious, also to a hard drive), remove them from your physical device.
#2 Delete apps
Most of us have those neglected apps lurking on the fifth page of our screens, untouched for months. It’s time to free up space and declutter our phones by getting rid of them.
Once you’ve removed the apps you won’t miss, delve into your settings to identify which ones are consuming the most storage and data. Some may justify their presence, while others may not.
If you’re an iPhone user, remember that you can delete default apps that come with your phone. Farewell, Compass and Stocks! Android users might not have the option to remove certain preinstalled apps entirely, but disabling them can prevent them from running and appearing in your apps list.
#3 Perform a smart clean
When we talk about smart cleaning, we mean automatic removal of everything that is not of value. To clean up more memory on your device, you only need to launch the application and monitor it slightly. Now, this is the easiest way to declutter your phone, and for this, you need to click here and then install the application. With the CleanUp app, you can get rid of duplicate contacts, unnecessary photos, and other junk. Boosting your phone has never been this easy.
#4 Backup
Photos and videos can eat up a significant amount of storage on your phone, making them the biggest storage hog. The price we pay for high-resolution images and 4K video clips is quite substantial. To start organizing your camera roll, go through it and delete any unwanted images. Make sure to permanently delete them from your trash to free up space.
Next, choose whether you want to back up your photos on your computer, an external hard drive, or in the cloud using services like iCloud, Google Photos, or Dropbox. Each backup method has its advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to conduct thorough research and decide which option is best for you.
#5 Listen to music online
Music, together with photos and video, takes up a significant amount of storage space on your phone. If you have burned CDs or downloaded songs from an online store, it might be a good idea to transfer those songs to a hard drive and switch to a streaming service. By doing so, you can still enjoy your favorite songs while exploring new music through curated playlists and radio mixes. Remember, streaming services usually require a monthly fee and consume data, so consider your current usage accordingly.
#6 Delete old text threads
Your phone’s performance might be slowing down due to the excessive amount of data in that old text thread with your besties, filled with GIFs, photos, and videos. It could be time to bid farewell to those outdated conversations to give your phone a much-needed boost. Screenshots of your favorite conversations can always be taken, and you may even consider turning them into a book.
On an iPhone, simply open the iMessage app, swipe left on the thread you wish to delete, and tap the red delete button. Unfortunately, on Androids, native deletion of individual texts is not possible. However, you can delete messages by tapping the Message+ icon, selecting a conversation, holding down the message, and tapping delete messages.
#7 Clear the cache
You should not allow old, expired cans of soup to accumulate in your kitchen cabinet, so why are you permitting outdated data to accumulate in your phone? The first step to spring cleaning your device is to clear its cache. This action could significantly enhance its speed and performance. However, be aware that clearing your browser data will delete all stored usernames and passwords. Therefore, make sure to keep that information in a secure place before cleansing your phone.
To clear history and website data on an iPhone, open the settings app, scroll down to “Safari,” and then scroll down again and tap on “Clear history and website data.” On an Android, open settings via the cog icon, then navigate to Apps in the menu. Locate the app you want to clear data for, tap on storage, and then clear the cache.
Conclusion
When you free up your device’s memory, you make it easier to work with. As a result, it starts to work faster. This is especially noticeable when compared with a phone, where the memory is almost completely full. As you can see, you don’t have to give up anything of your own to free up your smartphone’s memory.
