Aside from physical stores, Apple is now deeply infiltrating the online economy of China by having its own mini-program within the country’s WeChat app. This will allow China-based customers to purchase products from Apple (e.g., iPhones and iPads) online and even access the company’s different services, including its trade-in program. WeChat, owned by Tencent, is a huge name in China. It is practically a super app that also offers other services to users. For instance, users have a selection of mini-apps they can try. Different businesses in China are already taking advantage of this feature to sell their products on the platform, and Apple is one of the newest to join the list.
It is unsurprising, nonetheless, as recent reports highlighted Apple’s continuous dedication to prosper its business in China through online means. In May, the brand tried doing a live stream show in the Chinese market in hopes of promoting its devices. However, unlike other businesses that enlisted celebrity hosts, Apple took a different approach by having its tech experts demonstrate how to use Apple devices in the best ways possible. Surprisingly, the live stream was a success, reaching 300,000 likes and over 1.3 million viewers in just an hour.
Apple Store’s entrance into WeChat should allow Apple’s business to continuously flourish in China. Its popularity will allow Apple to reach over 1.2 billion users online with less difficulty. This should also further expand Apple’s current online connection with other Chinese customers, which is made possible through JD.com and Alibaba Group’s Tmall.
Apple Store’s online presence expansion should also aid Apple in the coming months, especially in the release of its iPhone 15 line. According to earlier reports, the company has great expectations for the sales of the new series, reportedly pushing it to aim for 85 to 90 million iPhone 15 units to meet the demand.
