It can be plainly annoying to have your sleep ruined from some random alarm not being turned off. The reasons behind this could be many from something as simple as a temporary bug to something a tad more difficult to solve such as identifying the problem in the app preferences.
Below we have mentioned 5 ways you can get rid of your alarm clock not being turned off, so you can hit that ‘off’ button and go back to sleeping a peaceful sleep.
1. Restart Your Phone
Restarting your phone is the first thing you should do if you have a smartphone problem. Several benefits can be attributed to this method.
The first step is to clear the temporary cache so that minor changes can be restored when the app is reactivated. In addition, the RAM is cleared, erasing any data you may have accessed while your phone was malfunctioning.
It works for most people, but if it doesn’t, check out the next option.
2. Reset App Preferences
Resetting app preferences is a last resort if nothing else works. However, it won’t remove any personal information. It will, however, restore all of your phone’s settings to their original defaults. This method should allow you to restore the alarm’s normal operation if a setting has become problematic.
Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset app preferences to start fresh with your app preferences. The option may be found in Settings > Apps on some phones. Find out exactly where the setting is located and what happens when you reset app preferences from our guide.
3. Clear the Clock App Cache
The Clock app’s cache or storage data can often be cleared to help. To erase the data, you will lose your existing alarms and have to re-create them if you use this fix. Not to worry, you can take a screenshot or write down the alarms.
Tap on Settings > Apps > Clock to clear the clock app’s cache and data. Alternatively, you can access App Info by holding down the Clock app for a long period of time on your phone’s screen.
To get your Android alarm working again, select Storage > Clear Cache after making your selection.
4. Check Your Calendar
If you have an alarm set in the Calendar app of your device, it is possible you would not be able to turn it off unless you specifically go to the Calendar app to turn it off.
It could be possible that you put a reminder for a birthday or an anniversary in your Calendar app, and when the reminder goes off you are mistaking it to be the alarm. The reminder can be turned off from the Calendar app thus solving your dilemma.
5. Turn On Notifications for Alarm
If you accidentally turned off ‘Allow Notifications’ for your Alarm app, you would not get any option to turn off the alarm right on the display screen. This is unless you are on the alarm app itself.
Go to Settings, then go to ‘Notifications’>’Alarm’>’Allow Notifications’> to turn on notifications for your alarm on Android. This will allow the alarm to ring and show up on the display screen, irrespective of whether you are in the alarm app or not.

6. Check the Alarm Volume and Tone
Alarm volume can be set independently on most Android phones, especially those with the most recent software. If you’ve accidentally set this alarm to be on silent or at a low volume, you won’t be able to hear it ring.
There is, however, a simple solution. The slider will appear on top of your screen as soon as you press the volume increase/decrease button. In order to access the volume drop-down menu, you must tap the downward arrow next to the slider. This will bring up options such as Alarm, Media, and System.
Don’t worry if you can’t find the Alarm slider in the volume controls. It doesn’t appear until you open the Clock app on some Android devices.
Make sure your alarm’s volume isn’t too low by adjusting the slider. It is possible to hear how the volume of your alarm changes as you drag.
It is possible that you have an alarm ringtone that is so quiet that it is completely inaudible. There is a chance that you are using a tone that you downloaded or added from the internet. This type of ringtone will not wake you up, especially if you are in a deep sleep.
Just go and change your current alarm tone to a more obnoxious one, and you’ll be fine. Use the system’s built-in alarm tone instead, as they’re usually more effective. Make a choice from the alarm ringtones in your Clock app and save it for later.
7. Uninstall Updates on Your Clock App
It’s possible that users of an older version of Android will run into this issue (though newer versions are also susceptible). This means that the apps that come pre-installed on your phone may receive updates that introduce bugs or don’t work properly.
In order to remove the Clock app, you must uninstall all of its updates and restore it to its factory state.
Once again, you’ll need to go to Settings, scroll down until you find the Clock app, or search for it if that’s an option. You’ll find the Uninstall updates button on the app’s details page.
8. Disable Flip to SHHH (only for Pixel phones)
The ‘Flip to Shhh’ feature on Google Pixel phones activates the do not disturb mode. The DND mode is activated by flipping your phone upside down, and eventually the alarm is silenced.
Alternatively, you can turn off the feature that allows you to set alarms as described above. Go to Settings > System > Gestures > Flip to Shhh in order to do so. Let go of it.
9. Check the DND Mode
When used in conjunction with other apps, such as the Clock app, the Do Not Disturb feature can be troublesome. When it is activated by accident, most people have no idea. When using this feature frequently, here is how to make the necessary adjustments.
Disturbing other apps is a common problem when using the smartphone’s Do not disturb (DND) mode. The problem is that people don’t pay attention to the DND settings. Even if alarms don’t go off, the DND setting could be to blame.
In order to fix it, here are some steps.
- Go to Sound in Settings.
- Do not disturb can be found in Settings > Notifications on some phones.
- To see all exceptions or to allow exceptions, click on the appropriate button on the bottom of the screen. The Alarm option can be found here. Please check to see if the switch next to it is on.
10. Check Your Device’s Sound Settings
Most of the time, the Clock app’s notifications were accidentally silenced. This is due to the fact that any app’s notifications can be easily turned off by swiping on it from the notification panel.
In the settings, you must enable the Clock app notifications. To do so, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Apps or Apps & Notifications in your phone’s Settings.
- Look in the All apps section for Clock. Tap it to activate it.
- Select Notifications. Turn on the Show notifications toggle if it is turned off.
If it is already turned on, tap on the available Notifications options such as Upcoming alarms, Bedtime, and so on. Check that notifications are turned on for each setting. Furthermore, if the Priority setting is visible, alarms should be kept at a high priority.
Final Verdict
The alarm function on our phones is something we take for granted all the time. We’ve made it a habit to set our alarms at 6:00 a.m. and go off to sleep quietly. When it quits operating, we realize how important it is in our life.
If you have a problem with your Android phone’s Clock app, you don’t need to be an expert in computer science. To get your alarm clock working again, all you need to know is how to change the settings.
For the most part, your Clock app will not go nuts for any significant cause. The most likely explanation is that you just forgot to change a small parameter. You should be fine to go after taking care of that.
