  • Sign into your Gmail account on Gmail.com.
  • Click the grid icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen and select Account.
  • On the left-hand side pane, select the “Data & Privacy” option.
  • Now, scroll down to find “Data from apps and services you use”.
  • Once you click “Data from apps and services you use”, select “Delete a Google Service”.
  • You may need to sign in again to verify that it’s your account.
  • Next, find Gmail and click on the Delete icon (Bin icon) corresponding to it.
  • To use your other Google services, it will ask you to provide another email address, which can’t be a Gmail address.
  • Once you put the email address in the box, click on “Send verification email”.
  • Enter the alternate email account and open the email from Google.
  • Click the link for deletion in the email.
  • If asked, log in to the Gmail account you wish to delete.
  • Choose “Yes, I want to delete <your email account>”.
  • Click on the “Delete Gmail” option and then choose “Done”.

Google Account Help mentions that if you use Gmail through your work, school, or other groups, you need to contact the administrator to delete the account. Only the business or group account administrator has permission to delete the Gmail account associated with it.

Also, Google doesn’t specify how long it may take to delete your information after you send the request. 

 

Delete Your Google Account Permanently

In case you don’t even want to use the other Google services associated with your account, you can choose to delete your entire Google account. However, there are a few different steps to achieve that. Don’t worry; it’s not difficult either. 

Here are the steps to delete your entire Google account forever.

  • Sign into your Gmail account on Gmail.com.
  • Click the grid icon in the top right-hand corner of your screen and select Account.
  • On the left-hand side pane, select the “Data & Privacy” option.
  • Scroll down to “More options”.
  • Now, click on “Delete your Google Account”.
  • Sign in to verify that it’s your account you wish to delete.
  • Here, you will get a choice to Download your data; click on it if needed.
  • Read the cautions mentioned on this page and tick the checkboxes as you find apt.
  • Tick the option for deleting your Google Account and all its data permanently.
  • Click on the “Delete account” option.

Remember that deleting your Google account means losing all your Google-related accounts like Google Photos, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc. You can no longer use the subscriptions you might have purchased on YouTube, Google Books, or other similar accounts. 

If you use the Google Chrome browser synced with a Google account, all the bookmarks and browsing history will be lost too.

 

Delete Your Other Email Platform

If you want to delete your Yahoo account or any other email account, the steps are more or less similar. It’s always better to download the information you don’t wish to delete. Make a backup of all your crucial data. Here is the step-by-step process to delete your Yahoo account.

  • Open the following URL in your web browser to delete your Yahoo account: https://edit.yahoo.com/config/delete_user
  • Sign into your Yahoo account with your username and password.
  • On the confirmation page, read the disclosure carefully and click “Continue deleting my account” at the bottom of the screen.
  • If prompted, enter your email address and click “Yes, terminate this account”.

When you delete your Yahoo account, you will also delete your Yahoo! ID, Mail data, GeoCities data, Address Book data, My Yahoo! data, HotJobs, and your Flickr information. Moreover, it may take around 40-90 days to complete the deletion process. 

You can follow similar, if not exact, steps to delete your email address from other platforms. Many email hosts offer an option to suspend or permanently delete your email account.
