Despite their advanced technology, iPhones are not 100% immune to technical difficulties like other smartphones. Sometimes users find it challenging to accomplish the smallest of tasks. One such issue is capturing a screenshot of a banking app, which has been a common complaint among iPhone users. Many have reported difficulty taking screenshots of their financial statements from their banking apps.

This article revolves around this particular issue as we analyze its underlying cause. We will conduct an in-depth analysis to ascertain whether the problem relates to iPhone’siPhone’s system or depends entirely on the banking application.

Let’s get going.

Taking A Screenshot on iPhone

Capturing a screenshot on your iPhone is typically a quick and straightforward process. On older iPhone models (pre-iPhone X), you could take a screenshot by pressing the Home button and the on/off button simultaneously. However, with newer models that lack the Home button, taking a screenshot is much simpler – press the Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously.

Why Can’t You Take a Screenshot of A Bank App on an iPhone?

Occasionally, you may encounter difficulty capturing a screenshot. One of the buttons may be unresponsive, or maybe there’s a software glitch with the device.

To address such issues, you can restart your iPhone, check the physical buttons for any obstructions, or perform a factory reset on your phone. However, if you face this problem with only one or two specific applications, the root cause could be different.

One issue that has been frequently highlighted is the inability of users to capture screenshots of their banking applications. In several instances, users require a quick overview of their banking statements. Taking a screenshot is undoubtedly a faster alternative to downloading it as a PDF or sending it via email.

It’s worth noting that the majority of banking apps prohibit users from taking screenshots of any of their pages, including personal information, banking statements, and other critical details. This feature is implemented to prevent the accidental sharing or unauthorized access of sensitive information, such as customer data or confidential financial details.

How to Take a Screenshot of a Bank App on iPhone?

1. Check Your Photo Gallery

Occasionally, even though the phone captures the screenshot, it may become difficult to locate it in the gallery due to the presence of numerous other media files. In such situations, performing a thorough examination is the most effective approach.

If you cannot locate any previously captured screenshots, connect your iPhone to a computer and conduct a comprehensive search using the file explorer. If all your other screenshots are present except for the one capturing your banking statement, try the following solutions.

2. Try an Alternate Way

If the traditional method of taking the screenshot is not working for you, you can try alternatives. Let’s have a look at a few:

  • Using Assistive Touch

The most convenient way to take a screenshot is by using Assistive touch. In fact, It’s highly recommended to keep this option enabled in case your phone’s physical buttons become unresponsive. Mind you; this will only work if your bank app permits you to take the screenshot. To take a screenshot using Assistive Touch on an iPhone, follow these steps:

  • Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Tap on General and then go to the Accessibility option.
  • Scroll down to locate AssistiveTouch and tap on it.
  • Use the toggle switch to turn on AssistiveTouch.
  • The Assistive Touch icon (A small gray square with a white circle) should appear on the corner of your screen.
  • Tap it to open the AssistiveTouch menu.
  • Tap on the device from the menu options.
  • Tap More and then Screenshot.
  • Your iPhone will take a screenshot of whatever is currently displayed on the screen.

To view the screenshot, go to your photo gallery.

  • Use Siri

In addition, You can also try Apple’s voice assistance service (Siri) to take the screenshot. Say, “Hey Siri, take a screenshot,” the system will capture the current page’s content. This method can be handy if you’re experiencing display issues and the Assistive Touch feature is malfunctioning.

  • Back Tap Feature

If you use iOS 14 or higher, you can take a screenshot from the Back tap feature. This is how you can do it:

  • Launch the Setting options on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.
  • Find the Touch option and tap on Back Tap.
  • You can choose whether you want a double or triple tap to perform the desired action.
  • Scroll down and select screenshot under the Shortcuts section.
  • Exit the Settings app and navigate to the screen you want to capture.
  • Double-tap or triple-tap the Back of your iPhone, depending on the gesture you chose

3. Use Third-party Apps

If your bank’s app has restricted screenshot capture through its security feature, you can attempt to use third-party applications. The bank app security feature only modifies system settings and stops it from capturing the screen. But through some apps, it’s possible to bypass it.

Here are some screenshot apps you can try:

4. Try Screen Recording Apps

While I strongly advise against taking screenshots of restricted apps and sensitive banking statements for your data security, a screen recording workaround is available as a last resort. Although these safety provisions are made to protect you from any unauthorized data breach, you can use this trick to get the required screenshot.

Download a screen recorder app and begin recording while using your banking app. Later, you can review the recorded video and photograph the desired moment as an image.

To record the screen using system settings, take the following steps:

  • Launch the Settings and tap on the Control Center.
  • Tap the Add button next to Screen Recording.
  • Open Control Center and tap the gray record button when you want to record.
  • Wait for 3 seconds. After the countdown finishes, the recording will start.
  • Exit the Control Center to record your screen.
  • To stop recording, open the Control Center, then tap the red Record button.
  • Go to the Photos app and play the recorded video and use the physical buttons to take the screenshot of the statement you need.

If your default recorder fails to record the screen due to the bank app’s privacy feature, you can try a third-party screen recorder app. Here are a few popular ones:
