Apple announced that its Tap to Pay on iPhone is now available in the UK. The first payment platforms to support the feature are Revolut and Tyl by NatWest, but Apple said that more are coming soon, including Adyen, Dojo, myPOS, Stripe, SumUp, Viva Wallet, Worldline, and Zettle by PayPal.
“We are excited to be among the first to bring Tap to Pay on iPhone to businesses of all sizes in the U.K. Our goal is to give our customers products and services that allow them to accept payments in a secure and convenient manner,” said Alex Codina, Revolut’s general manager of Merchant Acquiring. “With Tap to Pay on iPhone, we expect to see all kinds of businesses — from freelancers and sole traders to retail shops and barbershops, food stands, and more — quickly start accepting contactless payments with only an iPhone.”
Using the NFC chip in the device, the feature allows merchants to accept payments by simply using their iPhones without the need for additional card readers. It is compatible with Apple Pay, digital wallets, and contactless credit or debit cards. Nonetheless, it is important to note that Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or newer models.
The UK is the fourth location to receive support for Tap to Pay on iPhone after it was previously rolled out in Australia and Taiwan. The feature is also available in the US, benefitting hundreds of thousands of businesses, including Apple Stores. Apple said the feature will also be implemented in its Apple Stores in the UK “in the coming weeks.”
