iOS 17 will soon allow iPhone users to use passkeys to log in on icloud.com and apple.com domains or any Apple site on the web.

iOS 17 is loaded with new features and improvements. Apple announced many of them during the WWDC 2023 event, but some were not mentioned. Nonetheless, testers and developers continue to discover new ones as the beta test for the update continues. One of them includes passkey support for Apple IDs. This allows iPhone users to sign in to places where Apple IDs are accepted.
Passkey is a new way for everyone to log in to their accounts without providing credentials like account names or passwords. Apple wants to bring it to Apple users when they try to log in on some places on the web. However, it is important to note that the capability is currently limited to the beta version of iOS 17, alongside iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma betas. In the updates, a passkey will be automatically assigned to the user’s Apple ID, which can then be used for iCloud and Apple sites.
This will give users the “Sign in With Apple” or “Continue with Apple” buttons when they try to enter Apple ID-supported domains or websites. When clicked, users will be presented with a QR code that they can scan using their iPhones to sign in without entering their passwords. The new passkey support employs Face ID or Touch ID to authenticate the logins.
