A new rumor is circulating online, which reveals further details about the Pro models of the iPhone 15 line. According to the claim, there will be some improvements in the specifications of the models, albeit it dismissed earlier rumors that the phones will get higher RAM.
Well-known Apple leaker Unknownz21 (@URedditor) supports the idea that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will indeed come with an A17 Bionic chip based on TSMC’s 3nm process. However, the interesting part of the post on X pertains to the GPU core count of the chip. As per the account, the chip will have a core increase, resulting in 6 GPU cores. The current A16 Bionic chip has a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU, meaning the A17 chip should have a 6-core CPU and 6-core GPU. The account also adds that the maximum clock speed of the chip will be better compared to A16. It notes that it could be pushed up to 3.70 GHz, which is a huge bump from the 3.46GHz of the A16.
The account adds that the A17 chip might also be used in the next models (codenamed D47 and D48) in the iPhone 16 line, while a new A18 chip might likely be used in high-end models (codenamed D9x) in the series that will come after the first one mentioned.
Finally, it says that the smartphones will only use 6GB RAM. This contradicts earlier rumors that say the Pro model will have 8GB RAM, though it adds that such an increase is “unlikely, but maybe not impossible.” Yet, it is best not to hope for that now, as the leaker says they have “only seen 6GB so far.”
