After two weeks, Apple is releasing another beta for its iOS 16.6 update. It is now the fourth beta of the update, which includes a limited number of features. iOS testers and developers can now get the iOS 16.6 Beta 4 by going to the iOS 16 Developer Beta section in the Beta Updates page of their Settings app.
As the world continues to craze over the upcoming iOS 17, Apple continues to polish the iOS 16.6 update. This will be the latest update for the devices that won’t receive the iOS 17 update in September. However, compared to iOS 17, there are fewer features and improvements to expect in iOS 16.6. On a positive note, Apple will continuously introduce security features in iOS 16 as continuous support for its customers.
One of the biggest things included in iOS 16.6 Beta 4 is the iMessage Contact Key Verification feature, which will give users another option to verify that the recipient of their messages is really the person they trust. According to Apple, if an “exceptionally advanced adversary” has managed to eavesdrop on the supposedly encrypted communications, the activated feature will provide automatic alerts. As the company noted, it will benefit people who “face extraordinary digital threats,” including journalists, human rights activists, and government officials.
Other features include ivory and transparent Beats Studio Buds + icon images, new iCloud for Windows security prompt, and easier options for sharing sports scores or scheduled games. There are also some changes in other sections of iOS in the 16.6 update, which are related to Apple Pay Later, security, the Home app, and Apple Card.
