Starting with iOS 17, you can download offline maps, so you can use them even without a connection. You also get additional options and controls, allowing you to edit the downloaded map.
This should be helpful, especially when traveling to places without mobile connectivity. To start the download, follow the steps below:
- Launch your Maps app.
- Tap your picture or initials located next to the search field.
- Tap Offline Maps.
- Select Download New Map and enter the location you want to download in the search field. You can also simply tap My Location.
- Find the area you particularly want to download and tap Download.
- The maps you’ve downloaded will appear in the downloaded maps list, and it will show you different details (ETA, hours and ratings on place cards, turn-by-turn directions for driving, walking, cycling, or riding transit) even without Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- To edit the offline map, just select the Offline Maps option when you tap your picture or initials located next to the search field.
- Once an offline map is selected, you can rename a map by swiping to the left and tapping Rename or change the area covered by a map by selecting the Resize option when you tap the map’s name.
