Despite being new, iPhone 15 owners could experience issues with the brand-new units during the setup process, where the data from an old phone is being transferred to the new units. Thankfully, Apple already has a solution prepared for this via the latest iOS 17.0.2 update.
All the iPhone 15 models are shipped with the first version of iOS 17 in them. However, the new OS version has an issue, causing the iPhone 15 smartphones to have an interrupted transfer process during setup. As shared by different users online, having the setup and transfer process without first downloading the iOS 17.0.2 could result in the screen being stuck in the Apple logo.
With this, it is advised to momentarily set aside the transfer process and get the iOS 17.0.2 first. Apple said there will be a prompt that will remind iPhone 15 owners to do this upon initiating the setup process, but some reports claim that this doesn’t always happen. With this, users unaware of the issue continue with the transfer step, causing their screen to freeze.
In that case, Apple suggests the following instructions:
- Connect your new iPhone to a computer with a cable.
- Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Then, press and hold the side button.
- Continue to hold while the Apple logo appears and don’t let go until an image of a computer and cable appears.
- On your computer, locate your new iPhone in the Finder or in iTunes.
- Choose Restore when you see the option to Restore or Update.
On the other hand, if you still haven’t started the setup process and are just about to unbox your new iPhone 15 purchase, you must do the setup process by skipping the transfer section. Then, go to Settings > General > Software Update to get iOS 17.0.2. After that, restore the unit and go to the setup process again. You should be able to complete the data transfer process this time.
