If your Xbox One controller is broken, or if you want to connect two controllers for multiplayer purposes, you have come to the right place. This guide explains how you can connect your wired or wireless Xbox 360 controller to Xbox one and play multiplayer or other split-screen games. 

Can you use an Xbox 360 controller on Xbox one?

Xbox 360 controller is not compatible with Xbox One console; thus, you can not use it natively, but if you have a laptop or desktop with Windows 10, you can connect both wired and wireless Xbox 360 controllers to your Xbox One or Xbox One S console. 

Steps

Step 1: Connect your Xbox One to your laptop or desktop (If it’s already connected, skip to step 2.)

You need to connect your Xbox One to your Windows 10 computer and set up the Xbox streaming app. There are three methods of connecting your Xbox one to your computer. 

1. With an HDMI cable (requires an HDMI input port on your computer)
2. With a USB capture card 
3. With Wi-Fi or ethernet connection

We recommend the third method. To connect your console using Wi-Fi, you need to download and install the Xbox app on your computer. Once it’s downloaded, log in to your Xbox account and turn on your Xbox One. Click on “Connection” on the left vertical bar of icons, and both devices will be connected. 

Note: Make sure your Xbox One and computer are connected to the same network.

Step 2: Connect your Xbox 360 controller to your computer.

Connect the controller to the USB port of the computer. If you have a wireless Xbox 360 controller, you can connect its wireless receiver. Step 3: Click on the Stream button.

Click on the Stream button and follow the on-screen instructions; if you have already set-up streaming, you can start playing now. 

Tips for low input lag

1. Use an ethernet connection.
2. Lower the quality settings of the stream on your computer.

Is it possible to connect a wireless Xbox 360 controller to Xbox one?

Yes, as mentioned before, you can connect the wireless controller’s adapter to the USB port of the computer. You may have to download and install drivers on your PC to connect a wireless controller.
