Software researcher @aaronp613 shared the news after discovering code-level references in DoorDash’s latest iOS version. This means the feature is still being developed. Yet, once available, the feature will allow the app to show essential information on the Lock Screen or the Dynamic Island of the iPhone. This will be helpful for users who frequently use the app, which could allow them to show the progress of their DoorDash delivery. Also, this will enable the app to better compete with rival Uber Eats, which has been using the feature in its app since May.
This follows a report about Google doing the same for its Google Maps app for iOS. This signals different third-party iOS apps’ growing interest in iPhone’s Dynamic Island, which will reportedly be available in all iPhone 15 models this year. In case pushed, Google Maps and DoorDash will be added to the list of iOS apps already supporting Live Activities, including Citymapper, FotMob, ParkMobile, and more.
