Alongside the introduction of the new iPhone 15 series, Apple is also expanding the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature to Spain and Switzerland. Once rolled out, the service will soon be available to a total of 16 countries.

The feature first started with the release of the iPhone 14 in 2022. Months later, news about the function began to emerge online, with stories of people saved from dangerous situations with the help of the feature. Recently, Emergency SOS even aided in the rescue of a man from a cliff accident through the combination of Apple’s Crash Detection feature.

Now, the Cupertino giant wants to offer more users from other countries the Emergency SOS. After initially bringing it to the US and Canada and 12 more countries, it is now adding Spain and Switzerland to the list this month. With this, the service will soon be available to 16 markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and the US.

As expected, the service should be free for the first two years of an iPhone purchase. This applies to the iPhone 14, where it was first introduced, and the iPhone 15 series. Once the period ends, Apple is expected to charge users a subscription fee. Nonetheless, there is still no news from Apple about this, even if the two-year free service of the feature is about to end for the first iPhone 14 units purchased last year.

Moreover, there are some important points to know before using the service. Aside from the location availability of the feature, it is also available only on certain versions of iPhones. Apple does not offer the feature on iPhones purchased in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao. It also won’t work in places above 62° latitude, such as northern parts of Canada and Alaska.
