The first beta of the iOS 17.1 is now available to testers. The Cupertino company has released it alongside the first beta releases of watchOS 10.1, tvOS 17.1, and macOS 14.1.
The release follows the rollout of the iOS 17.0.1 update, which was used to address three actively exploited flaws. Apple then released the iOS 17.0.2 to all iPhone 15 models and later implemented it to all iOS 17-compatible iPhones, as well. Unlike the first one, iOS 17.0.2 is a fix for a data transfer bug that affects new iPhone 15 owners when they perform the setup process between their old and new units.
Now, Apple is moving on to the first developer beta of iOS 17, which marks the giant’s move to further improve the latest OS version of its iPhones. Through the new series of tests, the company is also expected to fix previously reported issues spotted in iOS 17, including the automatic activation of certain options in the Settings app:
- The bug reportedly activates two certain location options in Settings. These two options are the Significant Locations and iPhone Analytics under the System Services in the Settings app (Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services). Both are related to users’ location data, making their automatic activation in iOS 17 a big issue among users. According to the researchers, security experts highly recommend turning off the options.
- According to a recent report by a duo of researchers, the update could turn on the “Passwords & Keychain” setting for iCloud. “If you’re one of the few users who haven’t synced their Passwords & Keychain with iCloud and have upgraded to iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS Sonoma, check your iCloud settings and make sure the option to sync “Passwords & Keychain” is off,” the duo posted. “This case was reproducible in our testing, but some iCloud accounts didn’t change the setting. The reason is not clear.”
As expected, the beta release will tap the other sections of iOS 17 and its new features for further improvements. We will provide more information about it in the coming hours.
