Apple is working on a function to prevent the Action Button of your iPhone 15 Pro from being triggered by accident. This will reportedly arrive in iOS 17.1, which is still in beta testing.

There are lots of things added to the iPhone 15 series, especially in the Pro models introduced this year. This includes the Action Button in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which allows users to set specific actions for quick access. However, the element could mean an additional button that could be easily pushed when users put them in their pockets.

Fortunately, Apple has a solution for this.

According to 9To5Mac in a recent report, there is a code in the third beta of iOS 17.1 that indicates the function is being prepared. This should alter the behavior of the Action Button by using proximity sensors to determine when the iPhone 15 Pro models are put inside the pockets. Once it detects that it is placed inside pockets or similar places, it will require longer press time than usual, preventing accidental triggers.

The report notes the function will be automatically enabled by default when you install the iOS 17.1 Beta 3. As such, there won’t be a dedicated option for the function in the Settings app.

In related news, rumors claim that the Action Button will improve further in the next Apple iPhone series. One of these things is the “Project Atlas,” which will turn the current Action Button into a capacitive element, meaning it won’t be mechanical and will respond to detected touches via haptic feedback. This will be injected into the iPhone 16 lineup. The next-generation iPhone SE will reportedly feature an Action Button as well, although it is unknown if it will also be capacitive.
