After Apple released the estimated playback hour details of its iPhone 15 models, a new report now reveals the actual battery details of the units. This confirms the small increase in the battery capacity of the iPhone 15 series, including the 4422mAh battery of the Pro Max divulged last month by leaker @MajinBuOfficial.
As we noted in our previous report, Apple’s website indicates that there is no difference in the playback hours of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models in general:
iPhone 15
iPhone 15 Pro Max
- Video playback: Up to 29 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 95 hours
iPhone 15 Pro
- Video playback: Up to 23 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 75 hours
iPhone 15 Plus
- Video playback: Up to 26 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 100 hours
iPhone 15
- Video playback: Up to 20 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 80 hours
iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Pro Max
- Video playback: Up to 29 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 95 hours
iPhone 14 Pro
- Video playback: Up to 23 hours
- Audio playback: Up to 75 hours
iPhone 14 Plus
- Video playback: 26 hours
- Audio playback: 100 hours
iPhone 14
- Video playback: 20 hours
- Audio playback: 80 hours
There was no explanation for this lack of difference between the two lineup’s playback hours since Apple didn’t provide any details about the battery specifications on its website. However, the details of these batteries have been spotted recently on a Chinese regulatory database by online research platform Mysmartprice. According to the database, while the batteries of iPhone 15 models gained some addition in their capacities, the increases are disappointingly low. Here is a comparison of the new iPhone 15 battery capacities versus the iPhone 14:
iPhone 15
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,422mAh, 17.109Wh.
Apple iPhone 15 Pro: 3,274mAh, 12.70Wh
Apple iPhone 15 Plus: 4,383mAh, 16.950Wh.
Apple iPhone 15: 3,349mAh, 12.981Wh
iPhone 14
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323mAh
Apple iPhone 14 Pro: 3,200mAh
Apple iPhone 14 Plus: 4,325mAh
Apple iPhone 14: 3,279mAh
This confirms the leak shared by @MajinBuOfficial. At that time, the leaker stressed that the units would be more efficient due to the A17 Pro chip based on TSMC’s 3nm process. This is the logical explanation for the same playback hour estimates of the two series. This specifically applies to the iPhone 15 Pro models, which are now armed with the A17 Pro. According to Apple, the chip gives the units a boost in performance. It, however, could affect the battery consumption. And given that the batteries of the new phones have insignificant differences from their predecessors, we end up getting the same playback hour estimates.
