A new claim emerging from the microblogging website Weibo reveals three details involving the iPhone 16, echoing some previous points reported earlier. According to Instant Digital (via MacRumors), there is a “great chance” a new button will be introduced in the series. Apple will also reportedly adopt the solid-state technology in its Action Button.
The details were first shared weeks ago, with the additional button expected to be called “Capture Button.” It is currently unknown what function the button will have, but it will reportedly be placed under the Power button. This is currently where the mmWave cutout is located, but Apple is going to move it to the other side (under the Volume buttons) to prioritize the new one.
While this is exciting for fans (with the Weibo account saying there is a “great chance” this will be pushed), it is still uncertain whether the button will make it to production, as Apple also has an iPhone 16 layout without the Capture Button detail. If Apple decides to make it official, the new button will be included in all models in the iPhone 16 series.
On the other hand, the same report last month said that Apple would also apply the capacitive technology to the Action Button in iPhone 16, dubbing the move “Project Atlas” internally. The volume and Power buttons, meanwhile, are believed to remain the same next year.
This adds to the current rumors and leaks involving the iPhone 16, including the addition of three cameras (reportedly for the Vision Pro), a new camera arrangement similar to the vertical camera of the iPhone‌ 12, more advanced glass molded lenses in the Telephoto lens, better ultra-wide lens and 5G modem, bigger Pro displays, an A18 chip, a microlens display, Wi-Fi 7, and a super telephoto periscope camera.
Unfortunately, while Apple would introduce these hardware improvements, a recent report suggests that Apple might implement a price hike next year. According to an analyst, Apple would have to push an actual increase as its production cost grows.
