We are just more than a month away from the release of the iPhone 15 line, and there are lots of things to expect from the new models Apple will be introducing. The past months have been filled with rumors and leaks about these details, and here are some of them:
- The new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models are getting titanium frames. It will be a huge bump from stainless steel material, allowing the units to be lighter yet more durable.
- The standard iPhone 15 models will reportedly “trade in the notch for the Dynamic Island,” according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
- Apple will use a new process called low-injection pressure over-molding (LIPO) to decrease the bezel sizes in iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. In the future, Apple hopes to remove the bezel from its iPhone models completely.
- iPhone 15 will feature USB-C instead of the Lightning port.
- The Mute switch in iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models will be replaced with a customizable Action Button.
- Expect a price hike in the new iPhone models in September. Different industry analysts have already confirmed this, including Gurman, who said he “would look out for at least minor price increases across all four models outside of the US” but also added that he “wouldn’t rule out a price increase in the US.” meanwhile, Barclays analyst Tim Long, said the iPhone 15 Pro Max could sell from $1,199 to $1,299. - There will be an improved camera system in the iPhone 15 line, with the standard models getting 48MP cameras, although they won’t have sensors as big as the ones on Pro models. iPhone 15 Pro Max is set to have the first Apple smartphone to have a periscope camera lens and a 6x optical zoom, but iPhone 16 is getting a better one: rumor has it that an unspecified iPhone 16 model will reportedly have a “periscope ultra-long telephoto camera,” turning the device into an ideal tool for wildlife photography and other scenes.
- Gurman believes iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max “are moving to a 3-nanometer chip that is noticeably snappier.”
- The Pro models of the iPhone 15 line will be easier to repair due to the redesigned chassis, allowing iPhone owners to easily access the insides of their devices by including a removable back glass.
- The new Action Button of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models will reportedly replace the Ring/Silent switch. It could be compared to what Apple Watch. According to a leak, it could be set to any of the following options: Accessibility, Shortcuts, Silent Mode, Camera, Flashlight, Focus, Magnifier, Translate, and Voice Memos. Also, based on an image of the iPhone 15 case leaked, the button could appear rounder than expected.
- The battery of the iPhone 15 models will reportedly be better than earlier models. According to a previous report, all the models in the line will get battery size increases: standard iPhone 15 – 3877mAh (18% increase), iPhone 15 Plus – 4912mAh (13.6% increase), iPhone 15 Pro – 3650mAh (14.1% increase), and iPhone 15 Pro Max – 4852mAh (10.9% increase). Another report says Apple will be employing stacked battery technology in all iPhone 15 models.
- The iPhone 15 Pro will have a shade close to “crimson,” while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will get a mint green-like color.
- According to reports, the iPhone 15 signals Apple’s work in preparing the Vision Pro ecosystem. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said it would be possible through a better Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip. “iPhone 15 will likely see a specification upgrade of UWB, with the production process moving from 16nm to more advanced 7nm, allowing for improved performance or reduced power consumption for nearby Interactions,” said Kuo.
- Finally, iPhone 15 is expected to be introduced by Apple on September 13, with the Friday of that week for pre-orders and the official launch on September 22.
